Founding idea
Hansoft was founded on the idea that making a project plan upfront wasn’t the hard thing to do, but rather managing constant change. The tool was designed with values like team empowerment, transparency and collaboration in mind, rather than traditional command and control. Today Hansoft is a full solution used by teams around the world for agile and lean software development but also to bring more agility and collaboration to teams using Gantt scheduling.
Corporate history
Hansoft is a wholly owned subsidiary of Watertowerview Holding, founded and equally owned by Swedish software entrepreneurs Erik Olofsson, Hans Andersson, and Patric Palm. The company was started already in late 2002 and had a few local customers but it wasn’t until 2005 that the owners fully committed their focus and passion to the company. They had been busy running other businesses but in 2005 they concluded that the need for a product like Hansoft was rapidly increasing in the software and game development industries and it was time to bring it to the world.
In the beginning, Hansoft focused on the game development industry. New game consoles coming into the market were rapidly increasing the budget, team size and complexity of making a game. The combination of a strong need for a tool that could truly address these challenges and the fact that game companies are comfortable with using emerging technologies, made this industry a perfect match and natural market to focus on. Early success in Europe and Australia was followed by North America and Asia, and today Hansoft is the leading tool for project management and quality assurance in the game development industry.
However, the challenges with scaling agile and lean software development to large teams of teams are also found in other industries. Other tools in the market are slow and clumsy to use and the real-time performance of Hansoft’s easy-to-use interface is now saving time for managers and teams in industries such as telecom, aerospace, space, finance, IT, home electronics etc. Most users are software developers but increasingly programs with both software and hardware teams are using Hansoft together to more rapidly bring better products to the market.
Many awards have followed in the wake of rapidly growing international success. Among others, Hansoft has been awarded the “Develop Industry Excellence Award” by industry peers, the “Export Hermes” for successful export from Sweden and financial sustainability, the “Gasell of the year” for most rapid, still profitable, growth in Uppsala, and in the city Hansoft owners has also been awarded “Business persons of the year”.

Office
Hansoft is based right in the centre of Uppsala, Sweden's fourth largest municipality. Perhaps best known for its large 15th century university, the city also offers beautiful surroundings, a lively cultural scene and a quickly expanding high technology business sector. Commuter distance to Stockholm city is 40 minutes and 20 minutes to main airport Arlanda.
